Impatience in Magick

So I run an Occult sub on Reddit (called r/AskOccult if you want to join us) and get a lot of PM’s from people asking for magickal help.

Thing is 95% have been either morally wrong to me or, from what I can suspect, is someone who can’t get laid looking for advice on summoning a Succubus

(I’ve had an entity enter my root Chakra one night and damn it felt good but I knew this thing was feeding on me… I got it the hell out of these asap) but I don’t condone it or aid others, it happened spontaneously to me, but I still let it in I think. Anyway I digress…

A clock in our Dimension

The rest are desperate people looking for quick results and I often feel for them, but aside from recommending Saint Expeditus there’s not much I can do.

The final 1% are just lost people who I can actually help! Feels good the rare occasion it happens.

A clock in the Magickal Dimension

So what’s all this about Magickal impatience then? Well for years I practiced magic from New Avatar Power, basically distilled Hermeticism. Wanting immediate results, now!

I got either apparently negative or no results… still not 100% sure about that though, hence the clock above.

(Btw look into New Avatar Power… the spells DO work, the book is one of the most valuable things I own money-wise, along with my Tarot Deck and it’s got quite a mythology built round it)

Anyway in general I was casting wealth spells, as that’s where my issues were, but getting no help and feeling more and more drained, Almost hour long rituals in trance states to cast these spells and insane pronunciations.

If you read my previous post you’ll see my issues with Abrahamic spirits and that’s who New Avatar deals with, so it could even have been my apprehension. This is not an un-endorsment of NAP, just careful with it please, it’s powerful shit.

Eventually I decided these Beings weren’t going to listen to me and New Avatar Power went on the book shelf (except its banishing/uncrossing I still use that)

After that I moved to Saints with some results with Saint Expeditus but tried using Saint Cecilia to help in my music work, got nothing but negativity from her, so Saint’s were out.

Saint Expeditus ‘ “Cras Cras” “Hodie Hodie!”

I would still potentially work with Expeditus, he came through for me quickly it’s just the Christian thing and it’s quite involved but it does get results for me. I still admire him greatly, he’s a bad-ass Saint in my opinion.

Then I started to think why not work with the spirits of pagan religions, which I clearly have an affinity to, instead of spells to bring in Wealth from YHWH’s crew? Why not find the ancient Goddess of Wealth and make her an altar and just worship her?

If you’ve read my Fortuna posts you’ll see that is what I did and suddenly the money was pouring in. I decided to pursue this further.

As previous mentioned I’m a musician, the closest to a European pagan god of music was Apollo I believe, and I felt little affinity with him, so I went with Saraswasti instead. She now sits above my studio watching over and I have been making more banging tunes than ever,

Devī Saraswasti “Aum Shreem Bhreem Saraswathaye Namaha

So what I’m getting at is instead of spells to bring you your desire, find a God/Goddess/Saint/Spirit who’s domain covers your desire and start paying them tribute and worship. Or do the same with your Ancestors and Beloved Dead, they definitely want you to succeed!

No god/spirit will say no to a glass of fresh water and a candle or incense burned in it’s tribute, it’s easy to get started and has given me amazing results.
Try it out.

Difficulty with Western Occult Systems

For me I always felt wrong and afraid practicing Western magick, like Hermetic or Thelemic stuff, etc. Reason being it’s based on Abrahamic Religions… Christianity and me just don’t vibe… I tried working with some Saints, they don’t like me like the Hindu Gods do!

Something I’ve found takes a lot of the scariness away; (“Holy shit. I’m summoning one of YHWH’s Angels. Fuck what if I say something wrong, is my circle right, is my banishing correct?!”) is looking into Biblical History. Through a combination of linguistics and archaeological finds a completely different version of the early days of the foundations of the Abrahamic Religions has emerged.

Not my cup of tea,

YHWH was two Gods at one point or even more potentially and part of a pantheon, he had a wife called Asherah who was also worshiped (This leads into the subversion of feminine energy that’s gone on for a long time, but that needs another post). Baal, who is much demonized now, was another “storm” god, aka, competition.

Baal, maybe not as bad as you think.

YHWH, associated with thunder and lightening, apparently lived atop a mountain where it stormed constantly, where Moses got his 10 commandments… which btw, are a rip of The Hammurabi code of laws)

They couldn’t have two competing Storm gods so Baal worship was banned and worshipers slaughtered.

Then you have El, another name for YHWH who in early texts seems a separate God with temples for him and everything, it’s confusing to say the least. YHWH sat at a court of other “gods” at one point, who proceed to judge him… Judge the apparent Supreme Being? What was going on there?

In the Garden of Eden an Angel says if Adam or Eve eat of the Apple they will become “Gods like Us” Who is the “Us”? This sounds like negative entities trying to stop us realizing our divinity to me, but I’m not gonna get Gnostic for now.

So this gets me to the Angels and Demons you work with in Western Occult systems, I don’t think they ARE angels or demons, they are earlier Pagan gods who have been warped by the unstoppable tide of YHWH’s faith and adapted. It was that or be wiped out. So when YHWH’s people came for your local God you could say “Oh no, he/she isn’t a God they’re one of YHWH’s angels” Likely the enemies of early YHWH worshipers became “Demons” That doesn’t necessarily mean they were bad in my opinion.

I’m not saying be lax in your rituals to these Beings, or not show the proper respect, because after 5000+ years they will certainly expect it and have in essence become these beings and I guess YHWH is out there too, but he isn’t top player that I am sure of that, no matter how much he wants us to think he is… he’s descended from a pantheon, formerly the War god and look at our world… certainly looks like a God of War is exerting a lot of influence to me.

With this in mind that should take away some of the fear of working with these Entities. Come on, take some fear-power away from YHWH and his pantheon. Nobody is dragging your soul off to hell for communing with these entities. (BTW look into the concept of Hell, it’s a mistranslation of the pit where they burned their dead outside the city, not a spiritual place you’ll be tortured forever!)

But if you are messing with Hermetic or Thelemic stuff then take the Rituals and Spells seriously. I’m talking protective circles, correct pronunciations and invokings/banishings… I didn’t and I paid for it… or maybe it worked and that was the price… it’s hard to tell with Magick.

As a disclaimer, I don’t work with any of these entities anymore or these systems, aside from using a distilled banishing from time-to-time… which I might post later as it is super effective, but since I’ve stopped working with them, I’ve not felt I’ve needed it being honest.

I do, however have books and books on Western Occultism so it is a fascination more than a practice.

If your going down this route, please be careful, do your research diligently and be prepared for weird shit and potentially negative consequences.

Being an Empath

Generally if you are even reading a blog like this you will be on some aspect an Empath. Other distorted terms that come up are things like Light Workers… I dislike that ’cause who’s employing us?

Anyway an Empath is like a bright beacon of social energy. Social energy, a term I came up with to describe this phenomena I was witnessing, is this readily available source of energy that all people need, it’s everywhere but we are convinced we can only get it from each other. Has a conversation ever left you drained? On the opposite have you ever felt charged after winning an argument? That’s social energy. We don’t have scientific instruments to measure it because WE are the instruments. I’ve since found multiple writings that basically describe my Social Energy theory so it’s old news folks!

People lacking in social energy(SC) will be difficult, they will try desperately to get it from others in any way they can. This can be observed in how elderly people will perk up so much around youth, they are getting a solid feed of SC from the young ones, the young ones might seemed exhausted afterwards but Grandma sure feels good.

It must be stressed there is nothing malicious about this, it’s an issue of our complete divorce from true spiritual teaching. SC can be gotten purely from meditating, it doesn’t need to be stolen from someone else, but very few people realise this.

So with an understanding of social energy you can begin to understand how Empaths work. If you are an Empath you’ll attract narcissistic types, random people will open up to about life problems on the street, people will do subconscious things that just suck a little energy out… and you’ll often feel exhausted afterwards. This isn’t on.

The key an Empath needs to understand is just because you have this ability and can heal (which is what these people are seeking) you feel an obligation to do it, but it destroys you slowly. This isn’t healthy for either party involved and the Empath needs to learn some psychic self-defense such as putting up energy blocking shields and cutting off folk who are tapping you too hard.

Also crystals and minerals that ground are especially useful, as is walking barefoot (I was told once I should NEVER wear shoes with how much of people’s energy I take on) but the key is grounding.

I find volcanic rock one of the most grounding elements I’ve experienced outside of just touching the ground or a tree. Second place would be pure copper but needs to be cleansed often, lastly is Hematite. But this is just me other elements might be better for you. I also have a new trinket on the way for these reasons so will report on that

I’ve also been hearing about two types of Empath’s. Essentially one’s who takes people’s pain into themselves and one’s who release it out but I’m still researching this.

“Hail to the Goddess of Fortune”

I’ve done a couple posts covering my workings with Fortuna/Tyche. After realising I had been pronouncing Tyche wrong for about 3 months I decided to drop it and I’m sticking with Fortuna.

I decided rather than a complex, badly translated Greek set of conditions and demands blurted out to her daily(I’ve actually deleted that post, I think the whole thing was offensive to Her, I’m sorry if I’ve caused any trouble for anyone trying these techniques and of course, sorry Goddess Fortuna)

I would go with the much more elegant lighting a candle while chanting

“Ave Dea Fortuna”

As many times as you like. She just came through for me big time tonight and I was celebrating with a beer so I poured some of that out in offering, but that’s not an everyday thing just spontaneously came to me. I’m not even sure if she’ll approve but it seemed right and that’s a good 75% of Chaos Magick at least.

So, candle, altar, “Ave Dea Fortuna, bless this household and all who dwell within. Ave Dea Fortuna” and hopefully the blindfolded Goddess will smile your way. If she comes through for you make sure to mention it and maybe do a little something else. Don’t bother trying to do the “bless this” bit in Latin unless someone who is actually competent could translate for me? Otherwise I say that in English… it comes from Latin anyway.

Ave Dea Fortuna literally translates in Ancient Latin to “Hail to the Goddess of Fortune” and this relates to an outlandish theory I have that old paganism was pretty close to a lot of what we see in Hinduism today (hardcore Hinduism mind you), I was trying to find a mantra for Goddess Fortuna and I believe I have.

Ave Dea Fortuna

Back to Basics – Sigils

So if you’ve been reading the blog you will have seen I have been on a massive Hinduism binge and that continues, I just visited the Temple in town a few days ago… but I felt my other magickal practices were being neglected. Pooja and the mantras I was doing are more akin to meditations and worship that proper magician-ing like only a Western magician does.

So after a particularly enjoyable episode of the Higherside Chats with Chaos Magickian Gordon White (Check out his amazing blog/podcast Rune Soup if you haven’t) I decided it had been too long since I had dimmed the lights, lit the candles, read my tarot and cast some sigils.

The great thing about sigils are they are so easy… too easy it seems, you will undoubtedly want to add some pomp and flair to the whole thing.

I’ll share here the current technique I am using, which seems to be getting results and is basically stolen straight from Gordon although I have a different more Peter J. Carrol method I might add at another time. It’s better if you’re in a sort atheistic mindset at the time, which I’m not and don’t plan to return to anytime soon.

Now something Gordon stresses that not enough early-stages magicians understand is you must think probabilistic-ally. You are tipping the scales in your favour, if those scales are a billion to one, it doesn’t matter if your sigil improves things x10 for you, it’s still un-probabilistic your going to get that outcome.

But stuff that does have a chance of happening, the sigil will probably tip the odds so it does happen, only problem is you can set a time-frame in any method I’ve seen. (Personal example, I had a sudden influx of wealth about 6 months after a desperate attempt at a bunch of wealth spells, it was too late to help but still appreciated)

Let’s say you’ve landed a job interview at your dream company and you think the interview went well but there’s 10 other decent candidates. How can you tip the odds in your favour?

1) Write out your desire in the present tense e.g
“I am employed at [company]”

2) Cross out any vowels, a,e,i,o and u’s maybe y’s if your one of them.

3) Cross out repeating letters, e.g two r’s cross them both out

4) With whatever your left with form it into a sigil, an amalgamation of the letters into one. It will look ridiculous at first probably but just keep at it. Make it look magickal if that appeals to you (e.g a lot of Chao-ites add pointy arrows and that sort of vibe, mine are quite like that to be fair) Keep at it til it feels right and is visually appealing in some way to you

5) You can do this with multiple desires, in fact if you think it out properly so each sigil is nudging the odds for the next it can be super-effective this way.

6) You’ve got a sigil on a little piece of paper in front of you, discard all the paper from creating it.

7) Charge and cast the sigil, there are several methods and debates around this. I’ll go into it a little here.

An example of a sigil of mine…. I never said I was an artist!

Firstly you are potentially charging the sigil just by making it, it’s in your subconscious now. That’s a bit lazy though but it works in a pinch,

Secondly, it can be dramatic or it can be benign, think left path/right path. I personally don’t enjoy the idea of masturbating to activate sigils, which a lot of people do but I do have another automatic body method I made up that works.

However right now I sit down with my sigils I want to charge and cast. I dim the lights, set out a nice cloth for them and light some candles and incense. I call upon my ancestor spirits [insert your chosen belief system here/higher self/angelic beings etc] to aid me in charging and casting these sigils. I’ll look at each individually til it feels ‘different’ then move onto the next. After an appropriately dramatic time I’ll close down the space with maybe a quick banishing (I use New Avatar Power’s method) but it’s probably not necessary.

It’s also important to try and forget what the Sigil means, quite often this will happen just in the distilling process, or by the time you are down to a Sigil. Anyway don’t ‘lust for results’ Forget what it means but leave it somewhere you will see it from time-to-time. We’re hacking the subconscious here.

I’ve had some success with this method and I did a sort of canary to test it and yes it absolutely works on probabilities. This is obviously highly anecdotal but there is a certain game I love that is got so prone to crashes it was becoming unplayable, I’m talking full game crash every 10 minutes at it’s worst. So, I made a sigil that the game runs stable for me, and now I’m down to about a crash an hour, I can work with those odds!

Since the inspiration and so much of my technique came from him please check out Gordon’s blog or give him a listen on the Higherside Chats, he’s probably my highest rated current Chaos Magician.

The subverted major influence on everything Occult, Religious & Spiritual

In my practice I believe it is important to get back as far as you can in regards to esoteric/occult knowledge. The older something is the more legitimacy it tends to have (not always of course) So when I hear of a ritual or spell or practice I want to know where it comes from, what its drawing upon, etc.

In my circles I’ve always been involved with many New Age type people, probably looking at me someone might think of me like that, but it means I’ve been exposed to a lot of the New Age beliefs and although it isn’t a formal Religion it does seem to have central tenets. I begun tracing back a lot of the New Age beliefs and, without much digging, it comes to Hinduism. In fact you soon find out a huge amount of Western Occultism in the past 50 years is rebranded and misspelled Hinduism.
Chakras, yoga & meditation are a few of the “New Age” beliefs that are Hinduism done wrong, for example in Occultism there is a huge focus on the “Third Eye” which is of course a Chakra, now according to Hindus, the people who discovered Chakras, it is a very bad idea to open your Third Eye Chakra and not the rest. You have to work in sequential order from the root up or you will lose your mind.

In fact there is more awareness of Buddhism, often cited as the source for meditation, than Hinduism… yet the first Buddha was a Hindu! (Buddhism is the path, sent by the Gods, for the atheists who just can’t believe in gods, so they too can have a chance at liberation)

In the early 1800s Britain was not only exploiting the people of India, it was stealing and twisting their ancient knowledge and exporting it back to the UK with the rest of the plunder. The early Western Occultist pioneers like Dion Fortune were positively terrified of Indian Religions. The irony is, people like her, operating under the “Aryan Invasion Theory” (which is completely debunked by genetics) believed that the mythical white Aryan race had brought the foundations of what would become Hinduism to India. This whole idea rested on the dubious science of linguistics and the similarities of many Indo/European words and letters and has in recent years been proven unequivocally false. She believed her ancestors had taught the ancient Indians all they knew, yet it was the other way round completely.

Genetics has shown that our ancestors developed the genes to talk, then spread along the coast of East Africa, all the way to India. People migrated from India towards Europe to become the earliest peoples of that continent. I find it highly likely there was a form of proto-Hinduism at that time considering the age of some of the depictions of Gods or yoga poses we see. There are a lot of interesting linguistic parallels between Greek and Roman Gods and Hindu deities and since we know the direction of migration from the genetic record was from India these linguistic parallels make a lot of sense.

One example is the Greek God Zeus comes from the Ancient Hindu God Dyaus (If you check the Wikipedia Article for Dyaus it has some good links to support what I’m saying here, however parts of Wikipedia still accept the Aryan Invasion theory)

I would go as far to argue that all of pagan Europe, descended from the original migrants were influenced by the proto-Hinduism and were it not for the brutal purges of Christianity we would be able to see these parallels much clearer in Europes native pagan religions, which now are all but completely lost.

So it all boils down to Hinduism, to India. It really seems like India was the birthplace of Western Civilization and only because of the tragedy that a peaceful Religion has no chance against a violent one this knowledge is subverted and covered up.

So remember that next time someone offers to align your chakras, do they know what they are talking about?

Power of Mantras

You want these guys in your life trust me
Brahman, Vishnu & Shiva – The Trimurti

I’ve been dabbling in various meditative practices for years now, coming from a foundation of Mindfulness meditation – watching yourself be a human essentially – I try to apply it constantly in my day to day life. I like to try and stop for as many “conscious breaths” as I can remember to do. I endeavor to spend as much of my time in present awareness as possible, only engaging my thinking brain when it is needed…. that’s the theory at least!

But, my mind is still very much a “monkey mind” even after years of this but at least I know the monkey’s tricks and am pretty good at stopping it’s antics now. I was lucky enough to have the simple idea that “meditating isn’t about clearing your mind, it’s about listening to it” introduced to me early in my practice. I mention this because of how many people I’ve met that have told me they just can’t quieten their mind or make it be still. Well… none of us can.

Meditating is watching your Mind be noisy and trying not to add to that noise.

The mainstay of Mindfulness is a “Bodyscan” meditation, where you shine your awareness like a torch over every part of your body. A complete Bodyscan takes at minimum twenty minutes and it leaves you feeling great… but for whatever reason I found myself slipping out the practice; starting Bodyscans but not able to complete them (or falling asleep) Slowly the regular Bodyscan practice fell to the wayside. I would still try and dwell in presence as much as possible (I’m sure this will be familiar to disciples of Master Eckhart) but for my brain I need a formal meditation too.

So what to do? I couldn’t keep up the formal meditations and although I found it easy to slip into the “presence” state that alone wasn’t enough. Which brings us to the title of this post: Mantras

Mantras fall into the category of “Engaged Meditation” in my personal classifications. Other examples include Ecstatic Dance and Yoga.

Having something to focus on, such as the words of a Mantra, makes mediation an active process. and, in my experience, infinitely easier to do!

We are very fortunate as in the past few years huge numbers of Indians have gained access to the internet for the first time and are quickly making their mark on Gaia’s Neural Network, there are thousands of fantastic and genuine Hindu Mantra’s uploaded on YouTube. You will find a Mantra for any situation. To begin with I would recommend a simple Mantra offering devotion to a deity. Learn the words, find a good version you enjoy the rhythm of, get yourself in the “present moment” and start chanting that Mantra. If you are like me you will pretty soon start feeling intense peace, joy, ecstasy or love… or all at once!

There is another side to it that is hard to put into words but is what makes this one of the most powerful meditative practice for me. When you meditate formally you are engaging directly with Creation (the Universe) but when you sing Mantras in a meditative state, not only do you engage with Creation, you celebrate it!

Kali – The Dark Mother

Mantras I like (Search these on YouTube, find a version you enjoy and get singing!)

Om Gum Ganapataye Namaha Sharanam Ganesha
– Mantra to Ganesha

Jaya Jaya Shiva Shambo – Mantra to Shiva

Jai Mata Kali Jai Mata Durge – Mantra to Kali

Namah Shivaya – Mantra to Shiva

Hare Krishna – Mantra to Krishna

I would recommend checking the purpose of each of these Mantras as some can fill you with energy, others relax you and much more, so be aware of what you are calling for!

Worshiping Fortuna/Tyche

Goddess Fortuna / Tyche

So finding myself in a financial bind of my own making I decided to turn to the spirits for help, after a little success with a certain Catholic Saint which, though good at the time, really actually made things worse. As this is the second time working with Saints and things haven’t worked out, I’ve decided they aren’t for me.

Enter into my life Fortuna, Goddess of Wealth, Prosperity and Good Luck, all things I needed in abundance.

The Altar

The altar I set up was fairly expensive but I read you have to really do something to catch her attention so I set about building my altar.

The colours most pleasing to Fortuna are Gold, Silver and Green, so I draped the altar area with a green satin cloth, over a piece of wood that raises the centre area. In the centre I placed an Idol of Fortuna, there are beautiful ones available on eBay that aren’t too expensive.

Below the centre Idol I placed an image of Fortuna made of silver, one of the Pamp Suisse bullion bars. (You have to share your wealth with her!) It glitters beautifully in the candlelight. In front of that Image is an incense tray.

Now Fortuna’s altar should be somewhere visible and make you think wealth when you see it so to this end I collected up all the loose change of different currencies and made little piles around the base of her Idol, like she is standing on treasure.

Behind her is a treasure chest containing valuables.

Offerings

I light two white candles with specific words, followed by an incense which I waft around the Idol before placing in it’s holder. As I do this I say to the Idol:

“Oh Goddess Fortuna, I offer these candles and incense as tribute. [and thank you for your blessings]
Please [continue to] Bless this household and all who dwell here”

[Add these words if Fortuna has recently helped you]

And there you have it, my Altar and Ritual to Fortuna/Tyche.
